I am completely new to the air soft world and got invited to Operation Phoenix by a friend and had some questions about my equipment (mainly weaponry). What should i be looking for as far as price/quality for a rifle and secondary pistol? Look at about the $200 range airsoft gun, it will last you for awhile. Make sure it shoots under 370 FPS. Good starter brands are CA and G&G (their Sportline or CombatMachine models) and will have the battery and basic charger. Cost for them should be about $130ish. JG and Echo1 will shoot too hot. Adding a pistol can add more to the cost, but look at Sports Authority as they have a few pistols that are OK for a first timer. If you want to be serious about a pistol, get a gas blowback. WE is a good starter brand and will cost about $100.

I'd reccomend a good A&K, King arms, Classic Army, Tokyo marui, or G&P. The king arms thompsons are amazing out of the box, and are pretty accurate. as for a side arm, anything KWA, ns2 system is amazing, and socom gear is good quailty for a good price. socom gear 1911 hi-cappa's have a big enough gas chamber to quick fire the entire mag, and then have some to spare. and if you get the black ops edition its the same price and comes with two mags, just dont forget to get a propane adaptor. if you think you'll play much i'd shell out the extra cash and get a Gas rifle. thay have added realism and perform well, dont have the problem of charging the battery, BUT, you must regularly lube. WE is a good maker of GBBR's and makes an amazing open bolt PDW. its acurate out of the box and shoots around 400fps from the box. if you'd like to know any more feel free to message me. i've not been playing airsoft long, but i've already owned 6+ guns and have tried many others.

Well one that I've really been looking at is the G&G combat-machine RK-47 (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_237&products_id=5592) mainly because I like AK's and its not very expensive. It says it shoots 350-380fps so i don't know if that would be legal or not since it varies. Also not to disregard you're input netshark993 but ill wait to get a gas rifle if I really get into it. P.S. I already threw in a little extra and snagged an all metal gas, blow-back M9 for $100 so im set on that.

no problem. i just personally prefer them, but i also have bad luck with almost every AEG. if you wanna go good entry level AEg, try the king arms thompson. its the only AEg i havent had issues with, its only $189. and its pretty accurate out of the box

I also have another question. Personally i don't want to spend money on a radio but since we need a radio to compete I was wondering what a good cheap radio would be that would work for this event because I have no idea what to look for.

Get with a buddy and buy a set of any Motorola radio off eBay or somewhere. Just make sure they take regular batteries since splitting a charger is kind of difficult.

So just a simple walkie-talkie style, not a big, fancy, 300 different channels kinda radio?

Exactly. Something simple, such as the Motorola Talkabout.

Just make sure it has subchannels. All but the very cheapest will, but double check.

You could put bottles in a backpack but a hydration carrier would be easier. It has a hose built in that you can drink from at a moment's notice. You can also buy an ALICE pistol belt and use GI canteens.
